Visiting researchers

Karl Fridolf – Published 30 March 2011

This spring the Department of Fire Safety Engineering and Systems Safety will have two very well respected evacuation researchers visiting us, namely Rita Fahy and David Purser. Both will be involved in the course "Human Behaviour in Fire (VBRN10)" taken by the students of the Master programme in Fire Safety Engineering.

Rita Fahy's research areas are rescue operations and human behaviour in fire. Among other things, she has been involved in the investigation of peoples behaviour in the evacuation of the World Trade Center (WTC) in New York. Rita will be presenting her research, with a focus on the evacuation of WTC, in the Fire Safety Evaluation-course for our students. The presentation is open for everyone and will be held on tuesday 12th of April, 14.15-15.00 in V:B in the V-building. Welcome!

Our other guest, David Purser, is a toxicologist. He is responsible for many of the correlations used today for estimating the toxicity from fire smoke. David will mainly be involved in the course "Human Behaviour in Fire (VBRN10)", but feel free to attend his lectures even if you are not registered to the course. David's lectures are scheduled for:

  • Thursday 14th of April, 10.15-12.00 in V:C
  • Thursday 14th of April, 13.15-15.00 in V:C
  • Friday 15th of April, 08.15-10.00 in V:A

This is an unique opportunity to listen to one of the experts in this field! Welcome!
