The third task

Besides research and teaching shall Swedish universities share knowledge and communicate with the public society. This is called the ”third task” or "science outreach”. The division of fire safety engineering has a lot of engagement with the society and practitioners working with issues related to the work at the division. Examples of activities related to the ”third task" during the last week have been:  

  • Interaction with practitioners at the BIV conference (April 7-8). Marcus Runefors and Håkan Frantzich participated and gave presentations in a conferences organised by the Swedish SFPE chapter BIV in Luleå. 
  • Participation in the references group for the Swedish building codes (April 12). Nils Johansson represented the division in the reference group that supports the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning (Boverket) in regard to fire safety in buildings. 
  • Participation in the ISO/TC 92 meeting in Austria (April 11-15). Patrick van Hees is chairperson in this technical ISO committee on fire safety. Daniel Nilsson is chairperson in the sub-committee 4 on fire safety engineering.
