Berit Andersson, senior lecturer, and director of undergraduate studies, at the Division of Fire Safety Engineering, retires on March 31.
Berit was employed at Lund University in 1978, at the Department of Structural Mechanics. During her first years at the University Berit did extensive experimental research on upholstered furniture. During the later part of the 1980s she performed model scale compartment fire tests with wall lining materials and she also started to look into combustion products from fires. In 2009, Berit defended her PhD thesis "Fire hazard analysis of hetero-organic fuels - Source characteristics from experiments" in which she showed that results from experiments in reduced scale can be used to get an indication of the combustion products produced in a fire with hetero-organic fuels. During her years at Lund University Berit worked with several distinguished fire researchers, like Prof. Ove Pettersson, Prof. Phillip Thomas, Prof. Sven-Erik Magnusson and Prof. Göran Holmstedt.
In parallell with her research activities, Berit has been active in the development of the fire safety engineering education at Lund University and she has been an important part of the education of more than 800 students at the Division of Fire Safety Engineering.
The Division of Fire Safety Engineering wishes Berit all the best for her retirement!
